These integration courses are for refugees and immigrants who want to live in Germany and acquire German citizenship. For those who already have a resident permit (Aufenthaltstitel), the costs for participation in an integration course may be covered by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees or through your local Foreigners Registration Office (Ausländerbehörde).
Structure of the Integration Course in Berlin
First and foremost, the integration course teaches you the German language in 600 hours of lessons. Participants will acquire a large vocabulary, a better and more fluent pronunciation, and improved spelling. In the ensuing orientation course, consisting of 100 hours of in-class lessons, the participants will learn the fundamentals of the German legal system as well as German culture and history.
The Certificate — “Successfully passed the Integration Course”
The integration course in Berlin concludes with two final exams that test your language skills as well as your knowledge of “Life in Germany”. Once you have passed the exams, you will receive a certificate that you have “Successfully completed the Integration Course”. In addition to the General Integration Course, there are special courses for particular groups of individuals: for youths up to the age of 27, for parents, for women, and for those who are illiterate.
